Still Life with Mixed Poppies
Part of my show "Requiem in Bloom"
"Requiem in Bloom" was named before a year marked by profound loss, originally conceived as an ongoing elegy for my late mother. The exhibition was initially scheduled for the summer of 2025. However, following the deaths of both my grandmothers in late spring, I chose to postpone it. In time, the meaning of the work deepened beyond what I could have imagined. The requiem I’d planned became not only a lament for my mother, but for my grandmothers as well. Though the past year was deeply painful, as with other sorrows I have faced, it has given way to some of most most meaningful work. My prayer is that this body of work bears witness to grace within suffering, and to the presence of God in the darkest nights.
